Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cub Scouts?

Cub Scouts is all about fun with a purpose—building character, citizenship, and fitness through hands-on adventures kids love.

  • The Ideals: Kids learn and live the Scout Oath, Law, motto, sign, handshake, and salute—real values in action.

  • The Den: Small groups of same-grade friends meet to learn skills, try new things, and cheer each other on.

  • Advancement: Scouts earn badges and awards that celebrate progress and boost confidence—family included.

  • Family Involvement: Parents and caregivers are part of the journey, supporting and leading along the way.

  • Activities: Games, projects, skits, songs, outdoor fun, trips, and service—there’s something for every Scout.

  • Serving Community: Scouts connect with and help their neighborhoods, learning to make a difference.

  • The Uniform: Wearing the uniform builds pride, belonging, and a can-do spirit.

Bottom line: Kids join because it’s fun—and along the way, they grow in all the best ways.

Den Meetings

A Den is a group of kids in the same grade within our Pack. Dens meet 1–2 times a month between Pack Meetings for hands-on fun and learning.

Meeting days and times are set by the Den Leader with input from parents.

Pack Meetings

Our monthly Pack Meeting brings together all Dens, leaders, and families. We do a fun group activity and highlight what the kids learned and accomplished over the past month.

Pack Meetings are held every 3rd Monday at 6:15 PM.

Scoutbook

Scoutbook is our online hub for Pack communication, calendars, and tracking advancement.

  • After you register, you’ll get an email invite to join Scoutbook.

  • Log in anytime to enter activities and follow your Scout’s progress.

  • Keep an eye on the calendar for upcoming events and announcements.

  • Returning Scout: $110

  • New Scout: $110 ($85 + $25 one-time joining fee)

  • Uniform shirt and patches (one-time): about $50

  • Summer camps: costs vary

Volunteers

Camperships

Cost shouldn’t keep any family from joining Pack 120. If fees are a challenge, reach out to the Cubmaster or Committee Chair—we have camperships and can help.

Avenue of Flags — How It Works

What it is

  • Pack 120 teams up with the Solon Optimist Club (our charter org) to set up and take down the Avenue of Flags around Solon on five holidays: Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, and Veterans Day.

  • It’s a great way to support our sponsor and raise funds for Pack needs (leader fees, handbooks, etc.).

Popcorn Fundraiser

Our biggest, most fun fundraiser of the year! Popcorn sales help everyone:

  • 10% goes to your Scout’s individual account.

  • The rest supports our Pack and district events all year.

Kids can earn cool prizes based on how much they sell.

Completely optional—do what works for your family. Every bit helps, and it’s a great way for Scouts to practice confidence, teamwork, and goal-setting while having fun.

Safeguarding Youth

All BSA registered leaders are required to take the Youth Protection Training. This is critical for the safety of the Scouts. At no time should a leader ever be alone with a Scout. We will always have at least two deep leaders. Parents are also encouraged to take this training and it is available at Youth Protection Training. Any actual or perceived violations should immediately be reported either to Pack leadership or to the District Commissioner.
